Noles Hammer Dogs 22-3

Tony Thomas Jr. hit three doubles in leading Florida State to a 22-3 dismantling of Siena.

And his teammates mirrored Thomas' flirtation with setting standards with a seventh inning in which the Seminoles produced 15 runs - one shy of a school mark - and collected 13 hits - two shy of tying another team record.

The four hits by Thomas led the way in a 22-hit barrage that extended FSU's school-best winning streak - and his own hitting streak - to 17 games.

Spring Practice Preview: Clemson

The Noles take on Clemson in their first game of the 2007 season at Clemson on September 3. Here is a spring preview of the Clemson team:

Clemson top returner: RB James Davis. He followed an excellent freshman season in '05 with a better one in '06. Although he faltered in the second half of the season, Davis rushed for 1,134 yards despite sharing time with freshman C.J. Spiller and earned All-ACC recognition. Given enough carries, he could contend for All-American honors.

Player on the verge: DE Ricky Sapp. The former five-star prospect spent his freshman year backing up All-American Gaines Adams. Despite the reserve role, Sapp still managed to post 19 tackles - six for losses - and four sacks. Increased playing time and increased weight (he has already added 22 pounds and hopes to put on another 10 before the season) will result in increased productivity.

Impact newcomer: QB Willy Korn. The record-setting high school passer could be starting before the end of September. Last year's starter Will Proctor completed his eligibility, and no other quarterbacks on the roster received significant playing time. Korn, a four-star recruit, was ranked the nation's No. 5 dual-threat quarterback prospect by Rivals.com.

The big question: Can Clemson succeed if the Tigers have to play a true freshman quarterback? There would be no surprise if the highly regarded Korn was the starter midway through the season because there isn't much more experience on the roster. Junior Cullen Harper threw just 20 passes (completing 14) last season, and junior Tribble Reese threw just three. Freshman Michael Wade was redshirted last season.

Noles Win 16 Straight

The Florida State baseball team entered record territory Saturday afternoon. With the team's 8-3 win over Siena (0-8), the Seminoles won their 16th straight game to start a season besting the record set by Woody Woodward's 1975 squad. The longest overall win streak in school history was set by the 2002 team that won 25 in a row.

"It is a great accomplishment," said FSU Head Coach Mike Martin. "Records are made to be broken. This one stood for (almost) 33 years. It is a great accomplishment for our club. Now we just got to continue to get it done."

The Noles kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive by defeating Miami in overtime 98-90 behind the spectacular play of Al Thornton.

Noles Win Again

Florida State is tied for the best start in school history after a 14-4 win over Siena on Friday.

The Seminoles improved to 15-0, matching the 1975 squad for the longest winning streak to start a season.

Noles Snag Late Commitment

In what is unusual, FSU received a late commitment on Thursday from Hattiesburg,Ms. native, Taiwan Easterling.

Originally, the 5-foot-11, 192 pound Easterling had committed to Southern Miss during the month of December and remained committed to the Golden Eagles leading up to the beginning of February. He was recruited by Mickey Andrews and is thought to be projected as a wide receiver for the Seminoles.

FSU Hosts Siena Dogs This weekend

Florida State can tie the best start in the program's history with a win over Siena tonight.

Bryan Henry will start for the Noles against Siena in the opening game.While Henry is 3-0 with a respectable 3.37 ERA, he hasn't dominated an opponent since the season-opener against Tennessee.

Phillies Beat Noles 12-4 In Exhibition Game

For Love of the Game was the theme on Wednesday night in Clearwater, Fla. as the Florida State Seminoles took the field with the Philadelphia Phillies in an exhibition contest at Bright House Networks Field, the home of the Phillies spring training and their Class A affiliate the Clearwater Threshers. Players from both teams exchanged hand shakes before and after the game, enjoying the fun and excitement that the night had to offer. Although the Phillies won the game 12-4, it was the experience of playing with major leaguers that the Seminole players will remember forever.

"It was a lot fun tonight," said coach Mike Martin. "But the nice thing about tonight was that we played professionally. There was no messing around. Everyone was ready to go."
