The State Of FSU Basketball

The Gators later tonight will probably win their second consecutive national championship. This is in stark contrast to the state of the FSU basketball program. The Noles haven't been to the NCAA tournament in nine years. It is problematic when they will get there again. This is a program that is doing its best impersonation of mediocrity. It is also upsetting that FSU has an athletic director that seems content with the direction of the program and the head coach.

Five years is long enough to rebuild a program. Leonard Hamilton has not gotten the job done. Not even close. Hamilton does not seem to have the energy and enthusiasm that is necessary to rally a program. Incredibly Florida State's entire 2006 recruiting class is already a complete bust. Not one player recruited is still at FSU. Hardly a great milestone.

I believe FSU leadership needs to take a hard look at the basketball program as well as the performance of the athletic director. His hiring decisions have been suspect and I shudder to think who he might hire in the future to take Bobby Bowden's place.
