Florida State, which has won 20 games for the second consecutive season, plays No. 8 ranked North Carolina in the quarterfinal round of the 54th Annual ACC Tournament on Friday March 9, at 12 Noon at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Seminoles advanced to the second round of the event with a 67-66 victory over Clemson in Thursday's first round. Florida State's victory over Clemson marked the Seminoles' first win in the ACC Tournament since 2003 when they defeated the Tigers at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Seminoles' victory over the Tigers also marked the Seminoles' third consecutive ACC Tournament victory over Clemson. Florida State has now won three consecutive games this season with victories over NC State (Feb. 24, 78-52), at Miami (March 3, 98-90 in overtime) and against Clemson. The Seminoles opened the season with four consecutive wins and were undefeated during the month of December with a season-high eight consecutive wins. Florida State's victory over Clemson marked their second consecutive win at the St. Pete Times Forum this season - the Seminoles defeated Providence (Dec. 29, 92-62) in their final non-conference game of the 2006-07 season. The Seminoles would advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament for the second time in school history with a victory over North Carolina. Florida State defeated NC State and fell to North Carolina in the semifinals of the 1992 ACC Tournament.
All-America candidate Al Thornton electrified the ACC Tournament as he scored a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds in the Seminoles' 67-66 victory Clemson on Thursday. It marked the 31st consecutive game he has scored in double figures (each game of the 2006-07 season) and 16th double-double of his illustrious Seminoles career.
